SPA 221 From Local to Global: the Faces of Spain
Course Description
This course is an introduction to the cultures of Spain today, focusing on the study of Spain as a diverse, multi-cultural society. Students gain a nuanced understanding of the complexities and intersections of local, regional, national and global identities. The course moves from broad geographical overview and examination of the rich regional history and culture to explore recent economic and political development to understand an array of controversies and challenges in today's Spain. Review of original cultural materials, class discussion, student presentations, writing, and virtual language and culture exchanges with native speakers from Spain are a major components of the course. Taught in Spanish. Prerequisite: SPA-202, or any other 200 level SPA course over 202, with a minimum grade of C. GLAFC, Fall and/or Spring semester.
