POL 250 Politics of Developing Nations

Course Description

This course is concerned with the poor nations of the world and the institutions that govern them. What role does the government play in the quality of life of the people of developing nations in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East? What factors inhibit and foster political order, freedom, and human dignity? We will examine the net worked causes of human suffering in developing nations: colonial legacies, poverty, violent conflict, culture, and political and economic instability. We will evaluate the conflicting theories about the North-South Gap and how to bridge it. This course counts toward the African Studies minor and the Peace, Justice, and Conflict Studies major/minor. GLAFC, Fall semester.
