T/D 102 Beginning Contemporary Modern Dance
Course Description
This course introduces students (with little to no prior dance background or training) to the fundamental elements of modern dance technique, choreography, and the creative process. Emphasis is on anatomical alignment, toward building strength, flexibility, and somatic (mind-body) awareness as it applies to dance movement. Students will explore, design, and create dance improvisation and choreography while investigating the elements of Body, Action, Space, Time, Energy, and Force. The course also provides an introduction to the history and theory of modern dance and dance makers. Course must be repeated for one credit via T/D-117 if the student is interested in progressing to T/D-235 Intermediate Contemporary Modern Dance. ARTSC, Fall and Spring semesters.
