SPA 251 Love and Society in the Hispanic World

Course Description

In this course you will read a novel written by a Hispanic author on the topic of love. The novel will help you explore the role of emotions-including love, affection, and desire-as they play out in Hispanic societies, examining issues such as the politics, implications, and conflicts that arise from these phenomena. During this exploration, you will review Spanish grammar and practice your language skills through a variety of techniques, including grammar review, paired work, small-group work, full-class discussions, peer editing, process writing, oral presentations, and round-table discussions. This course is taught in Spanish and intended for Spanish majors, minors, and those wishing to improve their writing skills in the language. This course counts toward the GWSS major and minor. Prerequisite: SPA-202 with a minimum grade of C, or an equivalent course. WRITL, offered occasionally.
