General

Requirements

Simple Requirements

Completion requirement
Complete ALL of the following Courses:
  • BIO110 Principles of Biology
    AND     BIO111 Principles of Biology Lab
  • BIO120 Organismal Biology
    AND     BIO121 Organismal Biology Lab
  • BIO250 Cell and Molecular Biology
    AND     BIO251 Cell and Molecular Bio Lab
  • BIO260 Evolutn, Ecology and Behavior
    AND     BIO261 E.E.B. Lab
Complete at least 4 courses in the following Course Sets:

  1. Students must complete both the lab and lecture section of courses with both (lecture and lab together count as one course).

  2. Three electives must be level 300 BIO courses.

  3. CHE-270/271 or GEO-282/283 may be  used as a level 200 course toward the major.

  4. Students can fulfill the Writing Requirement (below) by taking an elective course that carries a WRIT-D or WRIT-L). See the Writing Requirement section below for a list of courses that fulfill both the Writing and Elective Requirements.

Complete ALL of the following Courses:

CHE-105/106 may be taken in preparation for CHE-110/111

Complete ALL of the following Courses:
  • CHE120 Organic Chemistry
    AND     CHE121 Organic Chemistry I Lab
Complete at least 1 of the following Courses:
  • MCS121 Calculus I
  • MCS142 Intro Statistics

Students must take either a course in Calculus (MCS-121 or higher) or Statistics (MCS-142 or higher).

Fulfill ANY of the following requirements:
Complete at least 1 courses in the following Course Sets:
OR
Complete ALL of the following Courses:

At least one of the four elective Biology courses must carry a WRIT  designation (WRIT-D or WRIT-L).

A combined average GPA of 2.0 or higher is required from all courses counted toward the major, i.e., Biology, Chemistry and MCS courses.

Internships

The Biology Department encourages its students to gain internship, vocational or other work experiences

Research 

The Biology Department encourages its students to conduct summer research.

Study Away

The Biology Department encourages its students to study abroad. The Center for International and Cultural Education (CICE) and Office of Career Development help students identify a study away program or internships that fit their goals. Only one study away course or a course at another university can transfer back as part of Biology major/minor credit. The course must be pre-approved by the Department.
