Description

The Film and Media Arts major offers students a space to study, practice and experiment with film and media within a broad interdisciplinary context that includes production, critical theory, and performance. Students develop their creativity and visual literacy as they gain an understanding of the history of film and media as well as the impact and implications of media production and processes within an increasingly mediated global environment. Emphasis is placed on developing a path of study individual to student goals, while honing their command of form, content and craft.

Film & Media Arts majors engage in core courses as part of a larger cohort of Art and Art History majors, and may also want to consider a double major with Communication Studies, English or Theater and Dance. With increasing opportunities to become creators of film and media content in work and social environments, the theoretical and practical insights provided to Film & Media Arts majors can offer students advantages in professional, personal and community-based pursuits. Film and Media Arts provides a foundational understanding of production and aesthetics within historical, political, social, economic, and cultural contexts.
