Description
From the beginning level to the upper-level courses, the French program creates opportunities for students to explore the cultures of varied regions of the French-speaking world. This includes the francophone communities of the USA in places such as Louisiana, where we are interested in the creole and Cajun cultures. Students are challenged to immerse themselves intellectually in the French language and in the creole cultures of the Caribbean, the francophone African communities, and the immigrant communities of metropolitan France. Our courses engage students to explore the crossroads of cultures in diverse ways. For our language, culture, and literature courses, we use authentic materials in a manner that helps students to develop their oral, writing, and speaking competencies in French. Our French Club activities are a medium for not only practicing the spoken French but for creating bonding among students, and through the viewing of films and occasionally cooking of French cuisine, for discussing topics of interest.
