Comparative Literature Minor

Completion requirement
Complete at least 1 of the following Courses:
  • ENG248 Film Theory
  • GWS203 Queer Theory
  • GWS248 Gender, Knowledge, Reality
    OR
    PHI248 Gender, Knowledge, Reality
  • GWS260 Global Feminisms
  • SCA285 Nordic Colonialisms
  • 19625cdf33a1b9f5f9b441daf655970aa168dc0cc4348b0e7ace1b3456438396

Students may petition the Program Director to apply a non-approved theory course to meet this requirement. 

Complete five courses from a list of approved courses, updated every semster (check the the CML website and/or consult with your CML advisor) meeting the following requirements:
  1. To reflect the broad scope of the program, these courses must come from at least three academic departments or programs.

  2. In addition, students must complete three of the courses at Level II or above, and at least one must be a Level III course.

  3. With approval from the Director, special topics courses that focus on reading and analyzing literary texts may also count toward the minor.

  4. Any NEL course above the introductory level also counts toward this requirement.

Given the broad and global nature of comparative literature studies, students are greatly encouraged:

To complete at least one course that focuses on global comparative (e.g. Anglophone, Francophone, Hispanophone, Russophone), Indigenous, and/or global Southern cultural contexts; and to study away.

There is no minimum grade requirements for courses within the Comparative Literature minor. Students must achieve an institutional grade point average, including major classes, of 2.0 to graduate.

Study Away

Students who study away may present some of their courses for credit in the Comparative Literature program. To determine how many credits are transferable, the Program Director will assess the content of the courses taken abroad. In most cases no more than two courses or course equivalents taken away from campus will be applied to the minor.
