Completion requirement
Complete ALL of the following Courses:
  • JPN101 Japanese Lang/Cultr I
  • JPN102 Japanese Lang/Cultr II
  • JPN201 Japanese Lang/Cultr III
  • JPN202 Japanese Lang/Cultr IV

Students may start at a level higher than JPN-101 based on the placement interview results. Students must complete through JPN-202 or equivalent.

Complete at least 2 of the following Courses:
  • HIS175 The Early East Asia Experience
  • HIS278 The Rise of Modern Japan
  • JPN170 Intro East Asian Lit
  • JPN270 Mod Japanese Lit/Cultr
  • JPN271 Japanese Film
  • JPN272 Women in E Asian Lit
  • MLC265 Intercultural Film
  • POL255 Politics of Japan and China
  • REL235 Zen & Jpnse Culture
  • REL235 Zen & Jpnse Culture

The number of courses required in this category depends on the Japanese language placement.  A student who starts at JPN-101 needs two English courses to complete the required six courses/24 credits for the minor.

Courses must be graded C or better to fulfill the requirement for the minor. This grade requirement does not include courses taken in Japan.

Study Away

At least three of the courses presented for the minor must be taken at the College, including at least two language courses. No more than two courses per semester taken in another program will be accepted. The study abroad curriculum must be approved by the program director prior to departure.
